It’s official, Instagram launches shopping in the UK.
This is big news for eCommerce brands that are looking for new ways to generate revenue for their products. recently Instagram have been making a lot of changes to their platform, giving brands more options to promote their products to their followers. With the use of Instagram stories and linking to landing pages on your website via swiping up, and now this new shopping feature has been made available in the UK.
The shopping feature has already been available in the US and it has now been made available in 8 other countries, Australia, the UK, Canada, Brazil, Germany, France, Italy and Spain. This new feature allows brands to add tags to their product posts, so when someone taps the post, an overlay will show giving more information on the product that you are seeing.
The information will display the name of the product, the price and a direct link to the stores’ product page, allowing a quicker, user-friendly option for your audience.
In a recent statement, Instagram’s global head of business, Jim Squires, said that during the trial in the US, shoppable tags had become quite popular, with 80 percent of the app’s users having followed shopping businesses.
“People come to Instagram every day to discover and buy products from their favorite businesses,” Squires said in the statement. “We want to be that seamless experience. Whether it’s a local artisan, florist or clothing store, shopping directly on Instagram has never been easier.”
Instagram also said that they plan to monetise this new feature, buy allowing business users to display shoppable photos to people who don’t already follow them.
